Antananarivo :   The 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated as Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate its 75 years of India’s Independence by the Embassy of India in
Antananarivo of Madagascar on October 2.

The event which began with the remarks from the Indian Ambassador to Madagascar Abhay Kumar who highlighted  the celebrations at the Embassy under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav saying that the celebrations were attended by members of different Indian communities including Hindu, Khojas, Ismalies, Bohras and others in Madagascar . 


Mr Kumar said that it was a matter of great pleasure  for him that an inter community sports competition was organized on the occasion. Promoting social harmony and inter community brotherhood is an apt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary, he maintained.

Mr Kumar said that Madagascar has strong Indian community that has its roots in Gujarat  and added that Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest pravasi Bhartiya was born in Gujarat.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi he said that Bapu had said- “Be the change you want to see in the world", following these words of Bapu, the Indian Embassy in Madagascar went fully solar a year ago on Gandhi Jayanti.

Floral tributes were offered to Mahatma Gandhi and the Bhajans "Vaishnav Jan to" and "Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram", favourite to Mahatma Gandhi were sung by the members of the Indian community on this occasion.

The Embassy of India building was illuminated with the projection of Gandhiji image to mark the occasion, he added.
