On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti
Munger ( Bihar) : Mahatma Gandhi was offered a gift of Lathi (bamboo stick) during his visit of Bihar after the devastating earthquake in April 1934.
Gandhiji accepted the Lathi on the condition that it will not be supplied to the Britishers as they were using it against freedom fighters.
Ghorghat in Munger of Bihar was the main supplier of Lathi at that time.
Thus, Gandhiji inculcated the sense of Non-Cooperation among the villagers against the British rule.
Ghorghat kept its word and Gandhiji kept that Lathi till last as a symbol of strength and agricultural economy.
