Lakhimpur Kheri: Congress  General secretary Priyanka Gandhi was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police  on Tuesday to prevent any cognizable offence while she was on way to the trouble torn Lakhimpur Kheri where over eight people including four farmers were mowed down  on Sunday during farmers protest against the visit of the UP Deputy Chief Minister .

Soon after the incident , Ms Gandhi had left for the spot but was detained during wee hours on Monday while on way to Lakhimpur Kheri. Later  after passage of 24 hours of detention ,the police arrested her.

Apart from Priyanka Gandhi Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda, Congress state president Ajay Kumar Lallu party MLC Deepak Singh and others were also arrested.

After her arrest  Priyanka Gandhi , through  video demanded  from the Prime Minister to visit
Lakhimpur Kheri  to  understand the pain of the farmers who were in despair for  the past several months. 

Earlier on Sunday nearly eight people died after a car owned by Union  Minister of State for Home  Home Ajay Mishra Teni allegedly ran over protesting farmers, triggering  violent clash.
