Mumbai : The Enforcement Directorate(ED) has succeeded in getting custody of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.

The Vacation Court today granted five-day custody for further enquiry into the money laundering and extortion case.

Deshmukh, after eluding five summons and failing in all attempts to move the court against ED enquiry, appeared before ED on Monday. After about 12 hours of questioning ED arrested him in the wee hours of Tuesday.

He, on Tuesday, was produced before the court after carrying out his medical examination.

Following arguments by the lawyer representing Deshmukh and ED, the court remanded Deshmukh of five days ED custody.

It is pertinent to mention here that former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh had charged Deshmukh of demanding Rs 100 crore per month from restaurants and bars and other establishments in Mumbai. Sachin Waze, another police officer, who is in police custody, was assigned the job of collecting the money for Deshmukh, Singh had alleged.
