Theatre with laser show in the Dal Lake to
 entertain tourists



Kashmir: It has been decade since the closure of movie theaters in Kashmir valley and now the Jammu and Kashmir government has started its first of its kind Open Air Theatre in the middle of the Dal lake.


On the inauguration day occasion famous Bollywood film Kashmir Ki Kali was played on the big screen. The film featuring Shammi Kapoor and Sharmila tagore was shot in 1964 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir Tourism  department in collaboration with Smart City Srinagar and mission youth J and K have started this open air theatre in Dal Lake. people can see movie while sitting in Shikaras.

It is a novel idea and there would be a movie about houseboats running in the theatre to give tourists an insight.  J and K Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta saud that we will do a laser show around it too. This will give a lot of confidence to the houseboat community and help in growing tourism in the Kashmir Valley.
  
The government also inaugurated a laser show in the Dal Lake. A gallery displaying old testimonials, periodicals and photographs depicting old pictures of houseboats in river Jhelum and Dal lake. 

 Kashmiri culture and traditional cuisine was also put up for the locals and tourist.

A fleet of  Shikaras adorned with shining lights and house boats were kept available for the tourists to join the celebrations and witness the laser show and  movies in open air show in the theatre.

An overwhelmed tourist Afshan, sharing her experience, said it was exciting and feeling great . It is Indias first touring cinema and its beautiful experience we are enjoying it a lot. Srinagar is a must visit place to come. We should recommend everyone and no one should be afraid of coming here.

On the occasion a Shikara rally was also organised. The decked up  Shikaras passed through Nehru park to Kabutarkhana with the local artists singing and dancing Kashmiri songs.



Open Air Theatre to attract tourists



Secretary, Tourism and Culture, J-K government, Sarmad Hafeez said that the open air theatre would attract more tourists and boost tourism in the Union Territory. It will benefit tourism in the union territory, he said harding that the concept of open air floating theatre is  unique, not found anywhere in this world.
