Blaming minister for humiliating him, Tejaswi had walked out of the state assembly


Patna: Following tug of war between the Treasury bench and Opposition leader in Bihar Assembly over the issue of misleading data and humiliation of the leader of the opposition Tejaswi Prasad Yadav by none other that the Rural Development Minister Shrawan Kumar, Bihar government became soft to resolve the crisis precipitated due to walk out by Tejaswi Yadav along with the opposition members from the state Assembly who boycotted the proceedings declaring that he would not attend the sessions of the house till the Minister Shrawan Kumar either apologise or tender his resignation.

The Speaker of the state assembly Vijay Kumar Sinha had to intervene to resolve the crisis for which he hurriedly convened a meeting of ruling party and opposition in his chamber

Later rural development Minister Shravan Kumar  admitted that he did not intend to hurt the sentiments of Tejaswi Prasad Yadav and  admitted that the data of both government as well as leader of the opposition was correct.

The statement of the Minister was considered as an indirect apology following which Tejasvi Prasad attended the proceedings of the house.

Tejaswi Yadav said that the minister has admitted that the data presented by him was factually correct and insisted to inform about the genuineness of the website.

To this the speaker said that the website belonged to rural development ministry and the officials have been asked to inquir into it.

Earlier Bihar assembly witnessed a piquant situation on Thursday during pre lunch session when the leader of the opposition in the state assembly Tejaswi Prasad Yadav, blaming Rural Development Minister Shrawan Kumar for his humiliation on the floor of the house on the issue of misleading the house through fake data and genuineness of the data as well as the website of MNREGA he had earlier referred to, demanded either an apology or resignation from the Minister and walked out of the Assembly saying that he would not attend the sessions of the house till the Minister Shrawan Kumar apologise or tender resignation.


Tejaswi Yadav said that by the permission of the speaker he had humbly raised the matter related to data of MNREGA on the website but the Minister blamed him of misleading the house. Tejaswi Yadav said that he felt offended with the conduct of the Minister.

The leader of the opposition said that he had also presented the detail of the website carrying the data but was humiliated by the Minister. Apparently annoyed, Tejaswi Yadav said that he has been humiliated and would not attend the house till the Minister Shravan Kumar apologise or resigns from his post and along with members of the opposition walked out of the house.

Earlier the Minister Shrawan Kumar said that the data presented by him during reply to a question in the house on Wednesday was correct. He said that the leader of opposition confused the house by referring to the data which did not belong to the official website of MNREGA.

Shrawan Kumar said that the post of the leader of the opposition was a constitutional post and the conduct of  Tejaswi Yadav was undemocratic.

He blamed Tejaswi Yadav for instigating the members of the house with his misleading statements made on the floor of the house as well as in media and asked him to clarify it in the media and in the house as well.

Irked at it, Tejasvi Yadav said that he was aware of the lesson taught to the minister on the issue, which  Sharwan Kumar countered saying that he was a gras root leader and follower of great socialist leader Karpoori Thakur and do not need to be taught by any one.

Intervening into the situation the speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha requested the members to maintain restrain while speaking in the house.

Tejaswi Yadav, apparently confident of his statement said that he was ready to be punished in case he has mislead the house by making false statement and stated that the Minister should resign in case he had belied in the house.

Spelling out the address of the website of MNREGA, Tejaswi Yadav requested the members to instantly open the website  to check the genuineness of the data as it was an official website on which both State Government and Central Government was feeding the data.

The speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha asked the Minister to get the website examined.

Shrawan Kumar, giving detail address of the official website of MANREGA said that the other portals and websites were unofficial and the leader of the opposition was using the fake data available on them.

Amid noise, the speaker announced to himself examine both of the websites.

Blaming the Minister for accusing Tejaswi Yadav, the opposition members demanding apology from the Minister Shrawan Kumar trooped to the well and shouted slogans.

Following request made by the speaker, the opposition members resumed their seats after which the speaker reiterated that he would himself examine the genuineness of the website.

The speaker appealed to the members to maintain sanctity while rasing any issue and asked them to avoid creating ruckus in the house while moving any issue on the floor of the house.

The leader of the opposition Tejaswi Prasad Yadav said that the Minister directly blamed him for misleading the house which was humiliating to him and in such circumstances he will not attend the house till the Minister either apologizes or resigns from his post.

In protest, Tejaswi Yadav along with the members of the opposition walked out of the house.

Later the parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhari said that whatever happened in the house should not have happened . He said that absence of leader of opposition from the house and the opposition members was against the democratic set up.

He requested the speaker that presence of both opposition as well as treasury benches was essential in the democratic setup.

He requested the speaker to look into the genuineness of the website referred by both the leader of the opposition and the government in the house.
