New Delhi: There’s no place for fizzy drinks in a child’s life, and even in an adult’s life.Children aged two to 14 years who consume fizzy drinks are increasing their lifetime risk of multiple health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
Excessive consumption of soft drinks has led to a perceptible rise in the incidence of type 2 diabetes. Kids having one or more soft drinks in a day are risk prone as these beverages have high sugar content, which also leads to obesity.
According to recent studies, citric acid and artificial flavours in soft drinks contain potent brain toxin that can harm the kid’s mental development. Caffeine in soda drinks also upsets the normal balance of neuro-chemistry in developing brains of children.
Soda used in soft drinks works like a slow poison when consumed in large amount. It is harmful, especially for children. It harms them physically, emotionally and mentally. Hence, kids should be kept away from soft drinks.
Soft drinks contain no nutritional value and kills the kids appetite. So they miss out on eating nourishing food.
As per WHO artificial sweetener aspartame is widely used in diet drinks could cause liver cancer. People should avoid diet drinks as aspartame has no health benefits and is a possible carcinogen.
Fizzy beverages like Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Thums-Up, and Mountain Dew have become quite popular over the years in India and that the people who have been addicted to these aerated drinks invite a lot of diseases to attack their body.
Parents must encourage natural orange juice, coconut water, lemon water and fruit juices rather than making their kids addicted to harmful fizzy drinks, causing multiple health issues.
The government should organise awareness camps in schools so as to make children realize the ill effects of soft drinks and junk food. It is for the state governments to issue guidelines to soft drinks companies to put warning labels on bottles.
