Agartala,  Sept 23  Raising serious concern over infiltration, the apex body of Tripura tribal - Council of Tiprasa Hoda demanded immediate
intervention of the Central and State Government to check illegal infiltration from Bangladesh.

Apart from Bangladeshis Chakma tribes from the Chittagong Hill were continuously infiltrating into Tripura and other parts of the country especially,  Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, West Bengal, Assam and Delhi.

Convener of the Council of Tiprasa Hoda, Birendra Tripura alleged that a section of Chakma intellectuals, top-level government employees belonging to Chakma community were helping in the illegal infiltration.

He alleged that since independence Tripura has been facing large-scale immigration from East Pakistan and the situation turned worse after the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971. Following infiltration the indigenous communities in the state have been reduced to the minority. The continuous influx from Bangladesh has created an adverse effect on land and resources and also, on the culture, tradition and lifestyle of Tripura.

He said that the armed Chakma group swere encouraging Bangladeshi Chakmas to illegally enter Tripura and settle down and in some other parts of the country. He claimed that a large number of Chakma people from Bangladesh intruded at Bankumari under Chawmanu, Twichakma,  Narkelkunj,  Thakurchhara and Naikachhara of Gandacharra in Dhalai district recently.

referring to the recovery of three Italian pistols recently from one Joymani Chakma he added that it was revealed that Joymani possesses dual citizenship of India and Bangladesh. Several other illegal arms dealers identified as Dhalmani Chakma and Raju Chakma were active in the area.

Demanding introduction of NRC in Tripura to stop the illegal intrusion Hoda  added that the Council had already written to the Union Home Minister, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, LS member and other concerned authorities and informed them about the problem of Chakma intrusion.
