Patna: Vishal Ranjan Daftuar, HRUF chairman and eminent international human rights activist,  says that putting a smile on the face of the needy is actually the biggest award.

 Winner of 2000 Human Rights Millennium Award and World Human Rights Promotion Award 2001, he had been active in the field of human rights for the last 25 years.

Mr Daftuar who devoted his life for public welfare and helping the needy  also got support from the President of India, the Chief Justice of India, the Prime Minister, the National Human Rights Commission, several Union Ministers and the Chief Minister of many states, including the Prime Minister of Bangladesh at the international level.

His letter to The then Chief Justice TS Thakur against the ban imposed by the NGT on sand mining in Bihar, converted Mr Daftuars letter into PIL in 2016 to hear the matter.

His letter to the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan regarding grevious injuries inflicted upon one Manoj Singh Tomar during 
Naxal attack of Chhattisgarh in 2016 compelled the CM to take action. Latter the then DG of CRPF, Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar apprised him with the actions initiated in this connection


He was also an instrumental for investigation into the train accident during Dussehra Mela in Amritsar in 2018 as the investigation was taken up following hus letter to the President Ram Nath Kovind

Mr Daftuars works earned applause as 
Secretary General of the National Human Rights Commission,  Vimbadhar Pradhan praised him

He said that inspired by the President Ram Nath Kovind, he founded Human Rights Umbrella Foundation - HRUF.
In 2019

The HRUF under its mission managed 
repatriation of a poor and mentally ill Satish Choudhary of Darbhanga, Bihar  after 11 years from Bangladesh jail on 12 September 2019. The family members of Satish Choudhary were tired of visiting the Janata Darbar of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other government offices had given up hope.

Similarly Anil Kumar Singh of Ballia, Uttar Pradesh was also repatriated following efforts of HRUF

Repatriation of Bangladeshi woman Savera Begum who was living in a shelter home in Bihar for past five years in October 24, 2020 on the occasion of EID, was one of the major 


 Human Rights Umbrella Foundation successfully completed its fourth international mission under the leadership of HRUF Chairman Vishal Daftuar by getting Rajendra Ravidas, landless and Mahadalit from Ustu village in Bihar released from jail in Bangladesh after four years on March 2 this year.
