Kolkata: In a bid to accomplish his mission to unite the Opposition forces across the country, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called on his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Monday and discussed the future strategies to unite the opposition parties.

Mr Kumar, accompanied by the Deputy Chief Minister Tejasvi Prasad Yadav also discussed the emerging political scenario at National level with her West Bengal counterpart at the state secretariat Nabanna.

Besides discussing various political equations and combinations, Mr Kumar appreciated the efforts of Mamata Banerjee and highlighted the developmental initiatives taken by her during her regime. During the discussion, Mr Kumar said that he was visiting Kolkata after a long gap and was pleased with the developmental initiatives of Mamata Banerjee.

Apart from discussing political moves, Manta Banerjee, during the meeting said that earlier it used to take her at least one and half hours to reach the airport from her residence whereas now she covers the distance just within 20 minutes.

Kumar is also scheduled to meet former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi party leader Akhilesh Yadav son of veteran leader late Mulayam Singh Yadav. Mr Kumar will be visiting Lucknow in the evening to meet Akhilesh Yadav where they would be discussing the agenda set to unite the opposition parties against BJP in the country.

The meeting between Nitish Kumar and Mamta Banerjee came close to the heels of his visit to the national capital to meet Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and former MP Rahul Gandhi. 

It is learnt that the Congress top brass has entrusted Nitish Kumar to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Mamata Banerjee is also putting her serious efforts to unite the opposition forces ahead of the 2024 polls and in a bid she met Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and former Karnataka chief minister and Janta Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy last month.
