Record over 23,000 differently-abled secure jobs in 2024-25 based on their qualifications, skills, and abilities

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is making significant strides in providing employment to vulnerable groups through the MGNREGA scheme for a self-reliant society.
Official sources said here on Thursday that the Rural Development department is offering jobs to the underprivileged, labourers, women, and the differently-abled (divyangjans) for an overall development which can be achieved when the needs of the weakest sections of society are addressed and they are empowered to claim their rightful opportunities.
According to the source, the MGNREGA scheme ensures that Divyangjans get employment as per their qualifications, skills, and capabilities. Equal livelihood rights, a concept of the Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath is being guaranteed to the oppressed segment of society. Since 2017-18, over 1.24 lakh divyangjans have been employed under this scheme.
According to the Department of Rural Development, the MGNREGA scheme provides 100 days of employment to workers in need, based on demand. Divyangjans are assigned work tailored to their abilities and requirements, ensuring inclusivity and dignity.
The financial year 2024-25 has witnessed remarkable progress in providing employment opportunities for divyangjans. Out of 50,201 registered Divyang job card holders, 23,262 have secured employment under the MGNREGA scheme, generating an impressive 8.28 lakh man-days.
Perusal of previous years data revealed that 11,332 Divyangjans were employed in 2017-18, followed by 10,993 in 2018-19, 10,699 in 2019-20, 17,400 in 2020-21, 14,065 in 2021-22, 13,948 in 2022-23, and 22,630 in 2023-24. This year, the number has already reached 23,262, showcasing consistent growth.
The sources informed that the government has leveraged digital technology to enhance transparency in the MGNREGA scheme. Processes such as registration, job card distribution, and work allocation are now streamlined on a digital platform, ensuring quick and efficient service delivery.
Divyangjans are assigned tasks suited to their physical abilities, ensuring they can perform the work comfortably. This initiative not only secures their livelihood but also empowers them to live with dignity and self-respect within society.
