Education and Law and Order in Bihar Collapsing

New Delhi: The Congress party has strongly criticised the JDU-BJP government in Bihar over the deteriorating state of education and law and order, comparing the situation to “Andher Nagari Chaupat Raja” — a metaphor for chaos under incompetent leadership.

Addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters in Indira Bhawan, Kanhaiya Kumar, a member of the Congress Working Committee and in-charge of NSUI, took aim at the government for appointing college principals through a lottery system, calling it a mockery of the education system.

He pointed out that male principals are being appointed even in women’s colleges, indicating the arbitrary and careless manner in which the administration is functioning.

Kanhaiya alleged that universities in Bihar have become hubs of corruption and extortion, where students are being charged bribes for their degrees. "While the rest of the country completes graduation in three years, in Bihar it takes five. Colleges with just four rooms are enrolling 30,000 to 40,000 students, clearly showing that degrees are being sold for money," he said.

He further criticized the poor infrastructure, stating that most colleges lack hostels, libraries, and laboratories, and even regular classes are not conducted. Citing the example of Darbhanga Medical College Hospital, he said, “Roofs are collapsing, patients are being bitten by rats, and water accumulates inside the building.”

Kanhaiya also slammed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the rising incidents of firing and violence in the state. “Despite all the claims of good governance, not a single day goes by without reports of gunfire. The Deputy CM says organized crime has ended, but in reality, the criminal gangs have organized themselves and become part of the government,” he alleged.

He concluded by saying that the police have lost control, and the so-called "double-engine" government is moving in opposite directions. “This government’s entire focus is on looting the people of Bihar, and the situation is extremely alarming,” Kanhaiya said.
